Season 2 expands beyond the events of Matthew Quirk’s original novel and tells an entirely new story created specifically for television. Unlike the first season, which focused mainly on Washington politics, the second season introduces international espionage with missions spanning Bangkok, New York, and Iran. The action scenes were filmed across multiple countries, featuring larger practical stunts, more intense chase sequences, and higher production values. Although critics praised the season’s fast pace and action, audience reactions were more divided because of its darker tone and new supporting characters.

One of the biggest hidden details in Season 2 is that Foxglove, the classified chemical weapons program at the center of the story, was created exclusively for the TV adaptation and does not exist in Matthew Quirk’s novel. Gabriel Basso also performed many of his own physically demanding action scenes, helping make Peter Sutherland’s fights and chase sequences feel more realistic.
