Where To Watch The Monkey

The Monkey is a darkly comic supernatural horror film based on the short story by Stephen King. The story follows twin brothers Bill and Hal, who discover an old wind-up monkey belonging to their father in the attic. What initially looks like an ordinary antique toy soon becomes the center of a horrifying pattern: whenever the monkey starts playing, someone dies. As children, Bill and Hal try to escape the toy's curse by getting rid of it, eventually growing apart. Twenty-five years later, however, the mysterious deaths begin again, forcing the estranged brothers to reunite and confront the disturbing object they thought they had left behind. Theo James plays the adult versions of the twins, while Christian Convery portrays their younger selves. Tatiana Maslany plays their mother, Lois.

More details about The Monkey and where you can watch

The Monkey is based on Stephen King’s short story “The Monkey” from his 1982 collection Skeleton Crew. Director Osgood Perkins changed the toy from cymbals to a drum, partly to avoid similarities to the famous monkey in Toy Story 3. The film also hides several Stephen King references, including characters named Annie Wilkes and Torrance. Perkins intentionally combines extreme gore with dark comedy, giving the movie a bizarre, almost cartoon-like style. Another fun detail is a 1999 scene featuring a Nintendo GameCube controller, even though the console was released in North America in 2001.

Did You Know

The creepy wind-up monkey in the movie could easily remind viewers of the classic cymbal-banging toy seen in Toy Story 3. However, the filmmakers deliberately gave their monkey a drum instead of cymbals, reportedly because Disney controlled the rights to the cymbal-playing version.
