Where To Watch The Wheel of Time — Season 1

The Wheel of Time Season 1 introduces viewers to a vast fantasy world where magic, ancient prophecies and a centuries-old battle between Light and Darkness shape the fate of humanity. The story begins in the peaceful village of Emond's Field, where the arrival of the mysterious Aes Sedai Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike) changes everything. Moiraine believes that one of five young villagers—Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski), Egwene al'Vere (Madeleine Madden), Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford), Mat Cauthon (Barney Harris), or Nynaeve al'Meara (Zoë Robins)—could be connected to the legendary Dragon Reborn, a figure destined either to save the world or destroy it.

More details about The Wheel of Time — Season 1 and where you can watch

The Wheel of Time Season 1 had a particularly challenging production because filming began in Prague in September 2019 but was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Production eventually resumed and wrapped in May 2021, meaning the first season took considerably longer to complete than originally planned. The production also built Jordan Studios in Prague as its main studio base, while filming took place across locations including the Czech Republic, Croatia, Spain, Slovenia and the Canary Islands.

One of the most interesting aspects of Season 1 is how much it differs from Robert Jordan’s original books while still drawing heavily from The Eye of the World. Showrunner Rafe Judkins described the adaptation as not being a scene-for-scene recreation, and the writers deliberately rearranged character arcs and events to make the enormous fantasy story work for television. Judkins also consulted Harriet McDougal, Robert Jordan’s widow, and author Brandon Sanderson about what Jordan might have changed himself with the benefit of hindsight.

Did You Know

One of the biggest Season 1 changes from the books involves Perrin Aybara. In the television series, Perrin is married to Laila, and he accidentally kills her during the Trolloc attack on Emond’s Field. Laila does not exist in the original novel, and Perrin is not married at the beginning of The Eye of the World.
