Virgin Territory is a historical romantic comedy set in 14th-century Italy during the Black Death. One of its most interesting details is that the movie was inspired by Giovanni Boccaccio’s classic literary work The Decameron, which explores love, desire, deception and human behaviour through stories told during a plague outbreak. The film was originally developed under alternative titles, including The Decameron and The Decameron: Angels and Virgins, before becoming Virgin Territory. Another unusual fact is that famous Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli worked as both a producer and the costume designer, bringing a distinctive fashion influence to the medieval setting. The film features Hayden Christensen, known for playing Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars, alongside Mischa Barton and Tim Roth. It was also the final film produced by legendary Italian filmmaker Dino De Laurentiis. Interestingly, the movie was released under different titles in different countries, including Medieval Pie: Territoires Vierges in France and Decameron Pie in Italy. Despite its historical backdrop, the film focuses more on romantic misadventures, comedy and mistaken identities than on accurately depicting medieval life.
