Kung Fu Panda (2008) takes place in a vividly stylized version of ancient China, where martial arts are revered and practiced by warriors of all disciplines. Po, an unlikely hero with zero training but boundless enthusiasm, works in his father’s noodle shop while dreaming of greatness. Fate intercedes when the wise Master Oogway selects Po as the prophesied Dragon Warrior, much to everyone’s surprise especially Po’s. Under the reluctant tutelage of Master Shifu and alongside the elite Furious Five, Po must overcome his insecurities and prove himself. As the menacing Tai Lung breaks out of prison seeking vengeance, Po discovers that true power comes from self-acceptance. The film’s mix of humor, action, emotional depth and visual spectacle made it a critical and commercial hit, inspiring sequels, TV series and merchandise worldwide.

Although Po becomes the unstoppable Dragon Warrior, the film’s directors originally considered casting Chris Farley (the late comedian) as Po years before production started, and DreamWorks even developed early concept art with Farley in mind! His sudden death delayed and reshaped the project until it evolved but the initial vision honored his spirit and humor. (Animation lore shared by DreamWorks insiders and early concept art leaks)
