Set in 1962 Baltimore, Hairspray follows Tracy Turnblad, a confident and plus-sized teen who loves to dance. Her dream comes true when she earns a spot on The Corny Collins Show, a popular local dance program. As Tracy rises to fame, she befriends African-American dancers and becomes aware of the show’s racial segregation policies. Determined to make a difference, she fights to integrate the program while facing opposition from the show’s villainous producer, Velma Von Tussle. Supported by her loving family and new friends, Tracy challenges beauty standards and prejudice. Through energetic musical performances and heartfelt storytelling, the film delivers a powerful message about acceptance, equality, and staying true to oneself.
