Sling Blade follows Karl Childers, an intellectually challenged man released from a mental institution after spending most of his life there for committing a violent crime as a boy. Back in his rural Arkansas hometown, Karl tries to rebuild a simple life and finds work as a mechanic, quickly forming a deep friendship with a young boy, Frank, and his mother, Linda. As Karl earns Frank’s trust, their bond becomes the emotional heart of the story. But when Doyle, Linda’s abusive boyfriend, seeks to undermine Karl and terrorize the family, Karl must confront his past inner demons. The film explores friendship, trauma, loyalty, and the search for peace in a world that misunderstands compassion.
