The 1964 holiday special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer follows Rudolph, whose glowing red nose makes him different from the other reindeer. After being ridiculed and separated from his peers, he runs away and befriends Hermey, an elf who dreams of becoming a dentist instead of making toys. Together, they meet prospector Yukon Cornelius and eventually arrive on the Island of Misfit Toys where unwanted toys desperately long for children who will love them. When Rudolph learns his family is in danger, he bravely returns home. A terrible snowstorm forces Santa to cancel Christmas, but Rudolph’s bright nose guides the sleigh through the night—turning him into an unforgettable Christmas legend.

The original puppet models of Rudolph and Santa used in the 1964 special were lost for decades, believed to be destroyed until they were discovered in a woman’s attic, damaged and forgotten. They were later restored and are now worth over $10 million, making them some of the most valuable animation props in history.
