In Shrek, the grumpy ogre’s peaceful swamp becomes crowded when magical fairy-tale creatures are banished there by the ruthless ruler Lord Farquaad. To get rid of them, Shrek makes a deal: rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded tower so Farquaad can marry her. Joined by a talkative sidekick, Donkey, Shrek embarks on a quest full of adventure, humor and unlikely friendships. Along the journey, he discovers Fiona’s secret and realizes that friendship, love, and acceptance matter more than looks or fairytale “perfection.” The film balances comedy and sentiment, delivering a modern fairy tale that challenges traditional norms and celebrates authenticity.

Originally, the titular ogre was voiced by Chris Farley and he had recorded most of the dialogue for Shrek. But after his untimely death in 1997, the studio replaced him with Mike Myers, who re-recorded the voice and gave Shrek his now-famous Scottish accent.
