In Season 1 of “Special Ops: Lioness,” Marine Cruz Manuelos is recruited by CIA operative Joe after a prior undercover mission ends disastrously. Cruz must infiltrate a terrorist’s network by befriending the terrorist’s daughter, forging trust, forming relationships, and gathering intelligence from within. Meanwhile, Joe balances her demanding professional obligations with her challenging personal life, putting additional pressure on the mission. As Cruz gets deeper into the enemy’s circle, loyalties blur, and violent secrets emerge. The season builds tension through covert operations, high stakes, and emotionally fraught relationships forcing the characters to constantly question how far they’re willing to go for duty, loyalty, and survival.

Even though “Special Ops: Lioness” is a dramatic spy-thriller, the series is inspired by a real-life U.S. military program the “Lioness program,” in which female soldiers were actually deployed for undercover intelligence operations in conflict zones. Many viewers assumed the show was purely fictional, so knowing that elements of its premise are rooted in real military history often comes as a shock.
