After the events of Season 1, Xie Lian finds himself drawn deeper into the complicated relationship between the Heavenly Realm and the Ghost Realm. When a Heavenly Official disappears, Xie Lian is sent into the dangerous territory controlled by the legendary Ghost King Hua Cheng. Their reunion leads Xie Lian into Ghost City, a chaotic supernatural world filled with gambling, ghosts, mysterious identities and hidden agendas. What initially looks like another dangerous mission gradually becomes connected to much older events surrounding the kingdoms of Xian Le and Yong An. Season 2 expands the mythology considerably, giving greater attention to Hua Cheng, Mu Qing, Feng Xin, Pei Ming, Lang Qianqiu and Jun Wu, while revealing more of Xie Lian's painful past. The season eventually moves from present-day supernatural intrigue into the history behind Fang Xin, Xian Le and Yong An, turning the story into a much more emotional exploration of loyalty, war, sacrifice and guilt.
