Where To Watch Weapons (2025)

Weapons is a disturbing supernatural mystery-horror film set in the seemingly ordinary town of Maybrook, where something impossible happens one night: at exactly 2:17 a.m., 17 children from the same classroom mysteriously leave their homes and disappear, with only Alex Lilly remaining behind. Their teacher, Justine Gandy (Julia Garner), becomes the target of suspicion as frightened parents and townspeople desperately search for answers. The investigation eventually brings together troubled father Archer Graff (Josh Brolin), teacher Justine, school administrator Marcus (Benedict Wong), recovering addict James (Austin Abrams), and Paul (Alden Ehrenreich). At the center of the nightmare is Gladys Lilly (Amy Madigan), a deeply unsettling figure whose connection to the missing children reveals the film's supernatural heart.

More details about Weapons (2025) and where you can watch

One of the film’s most unusual features is its chapter-based storytelling. Cregger deliberately moves from one character’s perspective to another and generally does not return to a completed perspective, giving the movie a novel-like structure. He has explained that Magnolia, Nashville, Short Cuts, and Pulp Fiction influenced his thinking about unconventional ensemble storytelling.

Another fascinating detail is that Cregger’s inspiration was partly autobiographical. He described the final chapter as strongly connected to his own childhood experiences with an alcoholic parent and the way children can become caregivers in dysfunctional families.

Did You Know

Director Zach Cregger described the central idea as resembling an old-school fairy tale in which children wander into the woods and fall into the hands of a witch. This is one reason the movie’s mysterious Gladys feels less like a conventional horror villain and more like a modern interpretation of the traditional folklore witch.
