Determined to save everyone, Poppy teams up with Branch, a cautious and sarcastic Troll who prefers survival over singing. More details about Trolls (2016) and where you can watch

One of the most fascinating things about Trolls (2016) is that the filmmakers wanted the entire movie to feel like a handmade art project instead of a normal CGI animated film. Animators digitally recreated textures such as felt, velvet, glitter, yarn, denim, and scrapbook paper to give the colorful world a soft handcrafted appearance. Even the Trolls’ hair was incredibly difficult to animate because every character had wildly different hairstyles that bounced, stretched, and moved during musical scenes.

Another interesting fact is that Justin Timberlake was not only the voice of Branch but also worked as the executive music producer for the film. His song “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” became one of the biggest songs of 2016 and earned nominations at the Oscars, Golden Globes, and Grammy Awards. The music played a huge role in the movie’s success because the creators wanted every emotional moment to feel connected through pop songs and energetic performances.

The movie itself was inspired by the classic Troll dolls created by Danish fisherman and woodcutter Thomas Dam in 1959. What began as tiny collectible toys with crazy hair eventually became a billion-dollar entertainment franchise. Many viewers also don’t notice that the film hides references to classic fairy tales, old-school toy culture, and famous music videos throughout the background designs and dance sequences.
