In The Prince of Egypt, an infant Hebrew boy is set adrift on the Nile to escape Pharaoh’s order to kill all Hebrew male children. Rescued and adopted by the royal family, the child grows up as Moses, brother to Rameses, the future Pharaoh. As Moses matures, he discovers his true heritage and witnesses the suffering of his people. Forced into exile, he encounters God and is chosen to lead the Hebrews out of slavery. Returning to Egypt, Moses confronts Rameses, unleashing a series of divine plagues that test their bond and reshape history. The film delivers an emotionally charged retelling of liberation, faith, and destiny.

This film is the only animated movie ever to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song for a religious epic. The song “When You Believe” won the Oscar, making The Prince of Egypt a historic achievement especially shocking because studios once believed religious stories could never succeed in mainstream animation.
