The Green Mile was adapted by Frank Darabont from Stephen King’s 1996 serialized novel. Interestingly, the book was originally published in six separate installments, rather than as one conventional novel. Darabont had already directed The Shawshank Redemption, another acclaimed prison drama based on a Stephen King story, before making The Green Mile.
The film received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and Michael Clarke Duncan’s portrayal of John Coffey became one of the most memorable performances of his career.
