Sinners* is a stylish supernatural horror drama written and directed by Ryan Coogler, set in 1932 Mississippi during the Jim Crow era. Michael B. Jordan delivers a dual performance as twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore, former gangsters and World War I veterans who return to their hometown of Clarksdale hoping to leave their criminal past behind and open a juke joint. Their plan changes dramatically when a mysterious supernatural threat led by the vampire Remmick arrives. At the heart of the story is their young cousin Sammie Moore (Miles Caton), a gifted blues musician whose music becomes central to the film's supernatural mythology. The cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld as Mary, Jack O'Connell as Remmick, Wunmi Mosaku as Annie, Jayme Lawson as Pearline, Omar Miller as Cornbread, and Delroy Lindo as Delta Slim. The film blends vampire horror with blues music, Black history, family, racism, folklore and the idea that music can connect people across generations.

One of the most unusual aspects of Sinners is that the entire main story takes place over roughly 24 hours, giving the movie an almost real-time feeling as Smoke and Stack’s juke-joint opening turns into a supernatural nightmare. The film was shot with IMAX film cameras, and Ryan Coogler worked with several of his regular Black Panther collaborators, including cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, production designer Hannah Beachler, composer Ludwig Göransson, editor Michael P. Shawver and costume designer Ruth E. Carter.
