Where To Watch Scamanda — Season 1

Scamanda Season 1 is a gripping four-part true-crime documentary that explores the extraordinary story of Amanda Riley, a California wife, mother and blogger who built an online community around her claimed battle with Stage 3 blood cancer. Through her blog, Lymphoma Can Suck It, Amanda presented herself as a courageous young mother fighting for her life, attracting emotional support, gifts and financial assistance from friends, strangers and members of her church community. The story takes a dramatic turn when investigative producer Nancy Moscatiello receives an anonymous tip questioning Amanda's cancer story. What begins as a suspicious lead develops into a lengthy investigation involving journalist Charlie Webster, law enforcement, the IRS and people who were once close to Amanda. The series uses interviews, archival material and reenactments to reconstruct how Amanda's online persona became so convincing—and how investigators eventually began uncovering contradictions.

More details about Scamanda — Season 1 and where you can watch

Scamanda is based on the No. 1 podcast of the same name, which investigated Amanda Riley’s story before the television documentary was produced. ABC says the investigation behind the story involved Nancy Moscatiello and lasted five years.

The case began with Amanda’s 2012 blog, “Lymphoma Can Suck It.” Her online story attracted an unusually broad support network, with people providing money, airline points, gift cards, food deliveries, childcare and other assistance.

The documentary also follows the financial investigation. According to the episode synopsis, investigators and the IRS traced money connected to Amanda’s website and examined years of medical records.

Did You Know

Nancy Moscatiello wasn’t initially handed a complete case file—she was essentially told to look more closely at Amanda’s blog. That small lead eventually developed into a five-year investigation, making the story particularly unusual among internet-era fraud cases.
