Where To Watch Queer

Set in 1950s Mexico City, Queer follows William Lee, played by Daniel Craig, an American expatriate living a lonely, alcohol- and drug-fueled existence among a small community of Americans. His routine changes when he meets Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey), a younger former soldier whose presence awakens Lee's desire for intimacy and genuine human connection. Their complicated relationship takes them from Mexico City toward an increasingly surreal journey into the jungle, where obsession, vulnerability and self-discovery collide. The film combines Guadagnino's atmospheric visual style with a more experimental approach to romance and identity. Daniel Craig's William Lee is far removed from his iconic James Bond persona, giving the actor an unusually vulnerable and emotionally exposed role.

More details about Queer and where you can watch

One of the most interesting aspects of Queer is that it is based on William S. Burroughs’ 1985 novella Queer, a work that draws heavily from Burroughs’ own experiences. The film was written by Justin Kuritzkes, who later reunited with Guadagnino for Challengers. The movie also features music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, adding to its dreamlike atmosphere. IMDb notes that the production used detailed miniatures extensively, including miniature versions of Mexico City streets and an airplane takeoff sequence.

Did You Know

William S. Burroughs wrote the novella in the 1950s, but it wasn’t published until 1985. Guadagnino’s film therefore brings a story from Burroughs’ mid-century world to modern cinema almost 70 years after it was originally written.
