Where To Watch Patriot – Season 1

Patriot Season 1 follows John Tavner, a highly skilled but emotionally exhausted intelligence officer who is forced back into the field after a disastrous mission. Working under the secret identity John Lakeman, he takes a seemingly ordinary job at a Milwaukee industrial piping company while secretly attempting to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear capability. His mission becomes increasingly complicated as professional incompetence, family pressure, trauma and an increasingly suspicious homicide detective begin closing in around him. What makes the season unusual is its strange combination of espionage, deadpan comedy, family drama and original folk music. John is not portrayed as an unstoppable super-spy; instead, he is a deeply damaged man struggling to function while carrying out increasingly absurd assignments. His father Tom Tavner, brother Edward Tavner, wife Alice, boss Leslie Claret, and detective Agathe Albans each become important pieces of the increasingly chaotic operation.

More details about Patriot – Season 1 and where you can watch

One of the show’s most distinctive features is its music. Michael Dorman actually performs the songs associated with John, turning the character’s internal suffering into awkward, melancholy folk music. The soundtrack includes original songs such as “Birds of Amsterdam,” “Charlie Foxtrot,” “Dead Serious Rick,” and “Charles Grodin,” alongside songs by artists such as Vashti Bunyan, Townes Van Zandt and The Clash.

Another interesting production detail is that although the story uses Luxembourg as an important setting, some of those scenes were filmed in Prague, Czech Republic.

Season 1 also has an unusually strong relationship between music and storytelling: songs aren’t simply background tracks—they often communicate John’s feelings and information that he cannot comfortably say aloud.

Did You Know

The Season 1 song “Charles Grodin” is literally about actor Charles Grodin, best known for films including Midnight Run. Michael Dorman performs the song as John, turning a seemingly random celebrity reference into an emotional device. The soundtrack credits Steve Conrad as the songwriter and Dorman as the performer.
