More details about Minions and where you can watch

The Minions were originally designed as much larger and more human-like characters during early development of Despicable Me. The creators eventually redesigned them into tiny yellow creatures because their childlike innocence made Gru appear more sympathetic. Their unique language, called “Minionese,” is a playful mix of English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and gibberish. Director Pierre Coffin personally voiced hundreds of Minion dialogue lines rather than hiring multiple voice actors. The film is set largely in the late 1960s and includes numerous references to British culture, classic spy movies, and the rise of pop music from that era. The movie ultimately earned over $1 billion worldwide, proving that the Minions were popular enough to lead a blockbuster without Gru.
