Me Before You is based on Jojo Moyes’ bestselling novel of the same name, and Moyes herself helped adapt the story for the screen. The film marked Thea Sharrock’s feature-film directorial debut, making its success particularly notable. Emilia Clarke took on a very different role from her famous Game of Thrones character, playing the colorful and optimistic Lou Clark, while Sam Claflin portrayed the emotionally complex Will Traynor. Another fun connection is Matthew Lewis, best known as Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter, who plays Lou’s boyfriend Patrick. The film was also partly shot at Pembroke Castle in Wales, giving its romantic countryside scenes an authentic setting.
