Ishura is unusual because there isn’t a traditional single protagonist. Instead of following one overpowered hero from beginning to end, Season 1 introduces numerous characters who are individually powerful enough to headline their own fantasy series. Soujirou is a wandering swordsman obsessed with fighting strong opponents, while Yuno provides a much more vulnerable viewpoint into the terrifying world of the Shura.
The anime is adapted from Keiso’s battle-fantasy light novel series, illustrated by Kureta. The official promotional material describes the concept as a world where everyone is powerful, everyone is a hero, but only one can become the ultimate hero.
