Where To Watch I Saw the TV Glow

I Saw the TV Glow follows Owen, a lonely teenager living in late-1990s suburbia whose ordinary life changes when his classmate Maddy introduces him to a strange late-night television program called The Pink Opaque. Starring Justice Smith as Owen and Jack Haven as Maddy, the film gradually blurs the boundary between television fiction and reality as Owen becomes increasingly fascinated by the mysterious world depicted on the show. As Owen grows older, The Pink Opaque remains an unsettling memory that refuses to disappear. Maddy's obsession with the program and her sudden disappearance leave Owen questioning his own memories, identity and understanding of reality. The film combines psychological horror, science fiction, coming-of-age drama and surreal mystery, using the glow of an old television as a recurring symbol for escape, repression and a life that might exist beyond the one Owen knows.

More details about I Saw the TV Glow and where you can watch

One of the most interesting aspects of I Saw the TV Glow is how heavily it uses the aesthetics of 1990s television to create its unsettling atmosphere. Rather than treating the fictional show The Pink Opaque simply as a story-within-a-story, Jane Schoenbrun uses it as a way to explore how a piece of media can become deeply connected to a person’s sense of identity and reality. The movie also deliberately leaves some events open to interpretation, encouraging viewers to question whether what Owen experiences is supernatural, psychological, symbolic, or some combination of all three. The cast includes musician Fred Durst, who plays Frank, while the soundtrack features artists including yeule, whose version of “Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl” appears in the film.

The fictional television series The Pink Opaque is one of the movie’s most important storytelling devices. It is presented like an obscure supernatural children’s/teen television program from the 1990s, complete with its own mythology and characters.
