Susanna Kaysen is an 18-year-old woman unsure about her future who is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and sent to Claymoore psychiatric hospital. Initially resistant, Susanna slowly becomes immersed in the lives of the other patients, including the charismatic and dangerous sociopath Lisa Rowe. As friendships form and conflicts arise, Susanna begins to confront her own emotional instability and fear of adulthood. Lisa’s rebellious behavior challenges authority but ultimately leads to destructive consequences. Through therapy, personal reflection, and painful realizations, Susanna learns the difference between being “crazy” and simply misunderstood. The film portrays recovery as a difficult, deeply personal journey rather than a clear-cut cure.
