Eastbound & Down Season 2 continues the chaotic journey of former Major League Baseball pitcher Kenny Powers (Danny McBride) after his failed attempt to return to the big leagues. Humiliated and angry after being denied his comeback, Kenny leaves North Carolina and heads to Mexico, hoping to escape his past and reinvent himself. In Mexico, Kenny attempts to live a more anonymous life while becoming involved with a local baseball team and its wealthy owner, Sebastian Cisneros. Kenny's enormous ego, unpredictable behavior and obsession with professional baseball soon make it impossible for him to remain anonymous. He also becomes romantically involved with Vida, played by Ana de la Reguera, while continuing to struggle with his feelings for April Buchanon.

Season 2 is a major change of scenery for Kenny Powers because the story moves from North Carolina to Mexico. Rather than simply repeating the formula of the first season, the writers use the new location to place Kenny in unfamiliar surroundings where he attempts to reinvent himself. His dream of living anonymously quickly falls apart because his personality makes it almost impossible for him to stay out of trouble.

The season introduces Vida, played by Mexican actress Ana de la Reguera, who becomes an important romantic interest for Kenny. Her relationship with Kenny gives the character another opportunity to appear vulnerable, although his ego and self-destructive behavior repeatedly interfere with his relationships.
