Where To Watch Django Unchained

Django Unchained is Quentin Tarantino's explosive revisionist Western that combines revenge, dark comedy, action and historical drama. Set in the American South roughly two years before the Civil War, the story follows Django (Jamie Foxx), an enslaved man whose life changes after he is freed by Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a German bounty hunter searching for the murderous Brittle brothers. After discovering Django's exceptional shooting ability, Schultz partners with him as a bounty hunter. But Django has a much bigger goal: finding his wife Broomhilda von Shaft (Kerry Washington), who was separated from him through the slave trade. Their search eventually leads them to Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the charismatic but vicious owner of the Candyland plantation. Inside Candie's world, Django and Schultz must carefully hide their true intentions while dealing with Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's suspicious and fiercely loyal house servant.

More details about Django Unchained and where you can watch

The film isn’t actually a remake of Django. Tarantino wrote an original story, but the movie deliberately pays homage to Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 spaghetti Western Django. Original Django star Franco Nero appears in a cameo, creating one of the film’s most clever connections to the earlier movie.

The title itself is a layered reference. It evokes Corbucci’s Django, while the “Unchained” portion recalls titles such as Hercules Unchained and Angel Unchained.

Tarantino deliberately borrowed from classic Western cinema. The snowy middle section was influenced by Sergio Corbucci’s 1968 film The Great Silence, while Dr. King Schultz’s German Western persona was influenced by the Karl May stories and films featuring the legendary character Old Shatterhand.
