In Bottoms, seniors PJ and Josie are two queer best friends navigating the social chaos of high school. They’re unpopular, inexperienced romantically, and obsessed with two cheerleaders who barely notice them. After a strange accident involving the football team, they invent a “self-defense club” to avoid trouble but really to impress their crushes. This amateur club soon spirals into a full-on fight club, drawing attention from the entire school and causing chaos. As more students join and bizarre conflicts erupt, PJ and Josie struggle to keep their motives secret while dealing with bruises, unexpected alliances, and high-school politics. Through wild humor and absurd scenarios, they learn about confidence, authenticity, and the weirdness of growing up.

Despite being a raunchy high school comedy about teens, Bottoms was voted by readers of The New York Times as one of the “100 Best Movies of the 21st Century” (finishing at number 297) a huge achievement for an R-rated teen comedy that many expected to be just another chaotic indie film.
