In Armageddon Time, Paul Graff is an imaginative 11-year-old boy coming of age in a socially divided 1980s Queens neighborhood. Surrounded by his supportive yet complicated family including his caring grandfather and grappling with academic pressures, Paul begins to form a close friendship with Johnny, the only Black student in school. Through this bond, Paul experiences firsthand the inequalities and injustices ingrained in society. Along the way, he must confront his own expectations, privilege, and mistakes, learning hard truths about loyalty, identity, and integrity. As Paul grows up, the film skillfully weaves personal memories with larger cultural backdrops, offering a reflective examination of privilege, friendship, and the pains that accompany the transition from innocence to self-awareness.
