Set in Texas, A Teacher follows Claire Wilson, a newly appointed high-school English teacher whose personal life is far less stable than it initially appears. At Westerbrook High School, she meets Eric Walker, a popular senior balancing college applications, football, a part-time job, and responsibilities toward his younger brothers. What begins as a seemingly ordinary teacher-student connection gradually crosses serious boundaries, setting off a chain of decisions with consequences that neither can easily escape. As the story develops, Claire's marriage to Matt Mitchell, Eric's family relationships, and the expectations surrounding high-school life become increasingly complicated. Eric's mother, Sandy Walker, and his friends also become part of the wider emotional fallout.
