In A Small Light, the series begins in 1930s Amsterdam when Miep Gies (Bel Powley) a young, spirited secretary starts working for Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber), a Jewish refugee who has fled Nazi persecution. As the Nazis occupy the Netherlands, Jewish families, including the Franks and others, face deportation and death. Miep and her devoted husband Jan (Joe Cole) decide to risk everything by hiding eight people in a secret annex above Otto’s workplace. Over the next two years, Miep navigates daily peril — smuggling food, securing supplies, and comforting those in hiding all while Nazi oppression tightens its grip. Her courage preserves the lives of many and ensures Anne Frank’s diary survives to become a lasting testament to hope and resilience.
