The animated series Hero Inside revolves around the mysterious disappearance of a comic artist named Scott, who created one hundred superhero comics but never released them publicly. After his disappearance, the comic books scatter throughout San Francisco. A teenager named Mike finds one of the comics called Crying Man. When he says the hero’s name, the superhero suddenly appears in the real world. Mike soon realizes that anyone who owns one of these comics can summon a hero by calling their name. As more people discover these magical books, heroes begin appearing everywhere, sometimes causing trouble. Mike must learn responsibility and teamwork while dealing with powerful enemies and other “Readers” who control heroes for their own purposes.
