Homestead depicts a harrowing post-apocalyptic scenario where a nuclear bomb triggers nationwide societal collapse. Former soldier Jeff Eriksson, his family, and other desperate survivors find refuge in a secluded mountain-region “prepper” compound. The Homestead. At first, the compound seems like a safe haven: walls, supplies, and a promise of security. But as more traumatised people arrive, interpersonal conflicts, scarcity of food and resources, and fear of external threats begin to erode the fragile peace. A critical incident — the destruction of most of their wheat supply by pests triggers panic. Later, when trespassing hunters threaten the group’s security, a tragic act of violence forces the community to confront moral dilemmas. The Homestead becomes less about surviving the apocalypse and more about surviving each other.

At the end of the film, it doesn’t truly wrap up the story instead, what looks like a “self-contained movie” is actually just the start. The film serves as the first part of a larger saga: immediately after the movie, a full series (8 episodes) continues the story of The Homestead exclusively on Angel Studios’ streaming platform. For many viewers expecting a complete narrative, this hybrid “movie-meets-series” structure came as a surprise.
