Where To Watch 3 Strikes

3 Strikes is a fast-paced 2000 crime comedy centered on Rob Douglas (Brian Hooks), a recently released ex-convict who is desperately trying to stay out of trouble. Rob already has two strikes under California's tough habitual-offender system, meaning another serious conviction could result in a 25-years-to-life sentence. His plans for a clean start quickly collapse when his friend Tone (Faizon Love) picks him up in a stolen car. During a police stop, Tone shoots at the officers and escapes, leaving Rob caught in the middle. Now treated as a wanted man, Rob has to run, hide and prove that he wasn't responsible for the shooting. Along the way, his attempts to avoid his third strike create a string of chaotic and comedic situations involving police, friends and family. The movie combines street comedy, crime, mistaken identity and social commentary, while building its story around the pressure created by California's three-strikes legislation.

More details about 3 Strikes and where you can watch

3 Strikes was written and directed by DJ Pooh, who also appears in the film as Trick Turner/Taxi Driver. The movie features a notable cast including Brian Hooks, Faizon Love, E-40, Meagan Good, Mo’Nique, Mike Epps, and David Alan Grier. Interestingly, 3 Strikes marked Mo’Nique’s film debut, years before she won an Oscar for Precious. The film’s story is inspired by California’s controversial three-strikes sentencing law, giving its comedy a real-world foundation. The soundtrack also has strong hip-hop connections, while the score was composed by Stewart Copeland, drummer of The Police. Another fun casting fact is that Dean Norris, who appears as Officer Roberts, later became famous as Hank Schrader in Breaking Bad.

Did You Know

The title refers to habitual-offender legislation under which repeat serious offenders could face extremely severe sentences. In the movie, Rob has already accumulated two strikes, so virtually every bad decision carries the possibility of becoming his last. That gives the otherwise goofy comedy a surprisingly serious underlying premise
