Where To Watch Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 takes audiences back inside the mind of Riley Andersen, who is no longer the little girl viewers met in the first film—she is now entering her teenage years. As Riley prepares for an important hockey camp and tries to impress older players, her emotional world undergoes a major transformation. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust suddenly discover that Riley's mind is making room for a new generation of emotions, led by the energetic and often overwhelming Anxiety. As Riley struggles with friendship, self-confidence, fitting in and the pressure to become the person she thinks others want her to be, Anxiety begins reshaping Headquarters around a new Sense of Self. Alongside Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment join the emotional team, creating an increasingly chaotic battle between Riley's old emotional identity and the person she is becoming. The story ultimately explores a surprisingly mature idea: growing up doesn't mean getting rid of difficult emotions—it means learning how all of them can coexist. Pixar officially describes the film as returning to the mind of a “newly minted teenager” as Headquarters makes room for new emotions.

More details about Inside Out 2 and where you can watch

Inside Out 2 introduces four major new emotions—Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment—to show how complicated Riley’s emotions become during adolescence. Interestingly, Pixar originally considered nine new emotions, but reduced the number to keep the story focused. Anxiety was also designed not as a villain, but as an emotion that genuinely believes she is protecting Riley, making her more relatable.

The filmmakers researched teenage psychology and brain development to make Riley’s experiences feel authentic. A fun behind-the-scenes detail is that some visual ideas for Anxiety were inspired by the intense style of Uncut Gems. Pixar also reused an unused door design from the first Inside Out for Nostalgia, giving an old production idea a new purpose. The film’s redesigned Headquarters represents Riley’s changing personality and developing Sense of Self.

Did You Know

As Riley grows into adolescence, her old emotional headquarters is literally disrupted to make room for new emotions and a developing Sense of Self. The film’s clever idea is inspired by a real part of growing up: our personalities aren’t simply controlled by one emotion. Instead, experiences, memories, beliefs and competing feelings continually influence the person we become.
