One of the most interesting behind-the-scenes stories is that Jamie Lee Curtis herself pushed for the sequel. According to IMDb’s trivia, Curtis contacted Disney’s leadership about making another Freaky Friday movie and helped persuade Lindsay Lohan to return. The sequel also brings back several performers from the 2003 film, including Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong and Rosalind Chao.

The movie is part of a much older body-swap tradition. The 2003 Freaky Friday was itself based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel Freaky Friday, meaning the 2025 movie ultimately connects to a story that is more than five decades old.
